Hello.
If you have enough experience to start in game development I would recommend looking into DirectX 11, as that is the most relevant API currently.
Unless you are working with mobiles—which is also a good way to start learning game development since it is simpler—in which case I would recommend iOS and OpenGL ES 2.0.
